CEMS is a Level 2 National Vocational Recognised Qualification (VRQ) in Spectator Control. Stewarding is geared for anyone looking for part time work, and is designed to test competency within the stadium workplace.

On the successful completion of the VRQ qualification, candidates will be able to undertake the National Vocational Qualification in Spectator Control, this is recognised as a higher-level qualification.

Each candidate will be able to work at his/her own pace and at a time decided by them. Under the advisement of their CEMS/NVQ trainer, they will undertake eight multiple-choice examinations covering three core theory units and one practical assessment.

The course is presented in modular form and delivered over eight training sessions:

1. Duties and Responsibilities
2. Health and Safety
3. Emergency Procedures
4. Contingency Planning
5. Customer Care, including Racial and Disability Awareness
6. Conflict Management
7. Basic Fire Safety Awareness
8. First Aid training

Candidates then demonstrate competency in a variety of different environments and circumstances before being eligible for the final examination.

Candidates are provided with a home study pack, which includes a study booklet detailing key information and practice questions.

All evidence of successful assessment, including multiple-choice examination papers, will be included in the candidate's Portfolio of Achievement, and will be completed before the final examination.
