Akona supported the LDA’s Personal Best event on 9 June 2010 by exhibiting alongside the likes of Wembley Stadium, Chelsea FC, the Rugby Football Union and Learn Direct to encourage Personal Best graduates to take the next step towards further volunteering and the jobs market. The event attracted over 700 Londoners from diverse backgrounds have celebrated completing the pre-volunteer programme for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games at a Recognition of Achievement event. The programme has helped 2,800 unemployed Londoners, including the homeless, people with disabilities, young people, people over 50 and those on incapacity benefit. All Personal Best graduates who successfully apply will be offered an interview to become a volunteer at the London 2012 Games. The 2012 Olympic hopefuls were joined by Deputy Mayor Richard Barnes, Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), Rt. Hon Lord Falconer of Thoroton, Olympians Jonathan Edwards CBE and Chair of the British Olympic Association’s Athletes Commission Sarah Winckless. Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: "It’s fantastic to see and hear how the Personal Best programme has enabled these people to find the confidence to go out and change their lives. London 2012 is about sport, it’s about regeneration and it’s about business opportunities, but it’s also about giving people opportunities in life and helping them make the most of them. This programme is helping us deliver an Olympic legacy now and I know that they are all inspiring me to go beyond my personal best every day and make sure we stage the most fantastic Games possible."
