World Skills London 2011

WorldSkills London 2011 will be the world's largest, international skills competition with young people from across the globe competing to be the best of the best in their chosen skill.

The competition takes place at ExCeL London from 5-8 October 2011, 150,000 expected visitors will see 1,000 competitors from 50 countries/regions competing in 45 skill areas over four exciting days of competition. Visitors can Have a Go at dozens of skills ranging from electronics to plumbing, creative arts and fashion to cabinet making. This is our opportunity to inspire future generations of skilled, high-quality professionals.

WorldSkills London 2011 Volunteer Development programme

As part of its wider Volunteer Programme (Crew 2011), WorldSkills London 2011 has expanded on the training offered to volunteers in order to improve their effectiveness and personal satisfaction and aid their employability and /or career progression. Volunteers will have the opportunity to attain formal recognition for the training they undertake and their contribution to the delivery of WorldSkills London 2011.

SkillsActive and WorldSkills London 2011 are working in partnership to deliver a volunteer programme to help engage with Londoners who wish to volunteer at the event and gain a qualification in the process. As part of the partnership WorldSkills London 2011 has contracted SkillsActive to undertake the management of the delivery of the Volunteer Development Programme.

The qualification is accredited and approved on the Qualifications and Credit Framework entitled Level 1 in Preparation for Event Volunteering, awarded by City & Guilds.

BTEC level 2 in an Award in Understanding Spectator Safety at Events

 

Eligibility of Learners on programme:

 

Learners must agree to all of the below for eligibility.

  • Ability to volunteer at the WorldSkills 2011 event at Excel on October 5th - October 8th 2011. (The volunteering will take place over 5 days each of which will be up to 8 hours long).
  • Anyone who would benefit from this programme to progress into further training or volunteering and potentially sustainable employment.
  • Have an interest in WorldSkills or will be able to utilise the opportunity of volunteering at WorldSkills 2011.

 

Learners must tick one or more of the following groups.

  • NEETs
  • 18+
  • Unemployed
  • Those without a level 2 qualification
  • Those seeking work through Job Centre Plus
  • Those living in or around one of the six host London Boroughs
